A lot of people don’t mind seeing a mouse or two, providing they are not in them house, and even then most of you would prefer to see a mouse rather than a rat.

There as been extensive research on mice disease, testing their urine & droppings to find out what they have the potential to spread which gaining entry into our homes. On top of the discovery list was Salmonella, in various strains, and we all know what this does to us humans!

Also high on the list was toxoplasma. Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by toxoplasma gondii. Infections with toxoplasmosis usually cause no obvious symptoms in adults bu occasionally, people may have a few weeks or months of mild, flu-like illness such as muscle aches and tender lymph nodes. This can be passed onto humans via pet cats who catch it through eating mice who have the parasite. Pregnant women are most at risk with this when handling cat faeces, for instance, when cleaning out litter trays.

Leptospira is another bacteria that mice carry, we know this best as Leptospirosis (also called Weil’s disease). This can be caught by plumbers, as well as us pest controllers the most, but the virus can pass on to anyone. It is caught through contact with soil, water and even vegetation if the pest mouse or rat as crawled over the vegetation and urinated on it.
